Something you will want to do a lot to make use of each character's individual strengths. Donkey is strong but slow, Diddy, quick but weak. The game is mostly a platform built in the line of the Mario franchise, which means plenty of hidden treasures, power-ups and caves.

I would guess that some of the negative reviews on this page are by people who were either overwhelmed by these systems, or simply did not give the game enough time to let its atmosphere and story sink in.
